Matvij was a farmer in Andrushivka, Vinnytsia oblast. He also ran a small business where he cut forage-plants for the farmers in the area. He was married twice. His second wife was Maria. During the farm collective plan Matvij was accused of being a kulak (a word meaning "fist", but by the bolshevik regime used as a word for prosperous farmers that were accused of being enemies of the revolution). Like thousands of other Ukrainian farmers he was deported to the Ural area together with his wife and their daughter Praskovja in 1932. Children in his first marriage: Tetjana. She was married to a farmer in Andrushivka named Zozulja. They had many children among one was Nastja who was married to Fedir Zherebets. Children in his second marriage: Hanna. Matrefon, b. , d. 1925. He lost one of his legs during the civil war. Yuhyna, b. , d. 1933 of starvation during the deliberate famine in Ukraine. Mykhajlo, b. 1902, d. 1964. Andrij, b. October 20, 1912, d. August 1982 in Hollywood, Broward County, Florida. He was married to Antonina F. , b. April 27, 1915, d. June 28, 1992 in Dade County, Florida. They lived in Khimki, Moscow district. Antonina had a daughter from a previous marriage who had emigrated with her family to the USA. Andrij and Antonina joined them around 1980. Andrij went under the name Andrey Otsebera in the USA.
Paraska, b. 1914. She was deported to Ural together with her parents in 1932. Sofia, b. 1923. She died before she reached the school age. |
